Use the office address where you expect to work, not a company’s general headquarters location. Confirm your expected office days directly with your employer. Compare specific addresses and routes at the times you expect to travel, and consider how a schedule change might affect your choice.
I suggest organizing the search around a short decision brief: locations to test, property requirements, move date and the questions that would make you pause. This helps keep an appealing listing from overriding an important requirement.
Decide what needs an in-person visit
If you are searching from another state, discuss what a video tour can show and which questions need independent inspection, records or your own visit. A camera may explain the layout, but it cannot answer every question about condition, noise or how the home feels to you.
Plan the process for reviewing documents, receiving updates and handling time-sensitive decisions. If buying immediately creates too many unknowns, discuss whether a period of renting would give you a more informed basis for choosing.
Coordinate the home search with your financial team
Establish a housing budget with your lender and financial advisers before narrowing the search. If your compensation includes stock or variable income, ask those professionals what can be relied on for the purchase and what documentation is needed. Compare resale homes and builder offerings on the same basis
Look at the actual property, included features, completion expectations and the commitments you would make.
